A Piece 'off' my Marketing Mind

The world around us changes every single day.  Whatever it used to be called in those days is not as important as what it is called now: a global village (even though, in my own eyes, I see it not beyond a matchbox).
We live life as it comes every day. Everybody looks: some see, many don’t. Whether by training or by my professional career or default, I have began to see things happen from an underlying marketing point of view over the past few years.  Here, I will share my thoughts with you every other week on the things that I see from different points of view but definitely with a marketing perspective.
We are all marketing beings whichever way you look at it. These are my thoughts…

Life's Wants
Abraham Maslow’s  hierarchy of needs  in the ‘wants of life’ pyramid with man’s quest for the basic things of life such as food, clothing, shelter, love and sex at the bottom of the pyramid to the self actualisation needs at the top confirms man’s need to be seen, loved and appreciated… is marketing.

Man’s pursuit for happiness in the course of life and living through arts, craft and workmanship is to create value for oneself…. That’s marketing.
From the days of baby, I love you and I want you to be the love of my life and the sugar in my tea… “My Dad owns the National Theatre and National Stadium” to these days of “Aliko Dangote is my friend” or “I work in Chevron” to woo a lady…. is marketing.

Even men want natural pink lips!

Pink lips and tattoos (even guys are not left out, check them out at Ikeja under bridge), make up, artificial eye lashes, artificial nails, even to artificial bums worn as underwear to make people look more appealing , attractive and seemingly endowed to gain competitive advantage … is marketing

Ginger your swagger, Gobe, Gangnam Style … using ladies with big butts for music videos to create appeal and viewership … is marketing.

'Ukwu"
Until recently, Uku or Ukwu (whichever way it is spelt) means three (3) in Hausa Language. Then, Timaya and Iyanya in their songs “Ukwu” and “Le kwa Ukwu” respectively changed the meaning. You may call it product naming ….I call it marketing!

Competition, whether healthy or unhealthy amongst individuals, corporate organisations and even governments … all na marketing.

Need I say more? We are all marketing (not only social) beings especially in this part of the world.

My conclusion: the more marketing nature we exhibit as individuals or corporate organisations, the more value oriented we are either for ourselves, our businesses and corporate organisations and the society at large is the better for it on the long run!
